It's a musical, and while in the book Raoul and the managers don't sing, they do in the musical because it was a musical. I agree he's a good actor.Īnd besides, I don't think it's right to argue that the Phantom should have a more "non trained" voice because of his background. I also heard that Webber wanted Gerard for those reasons, and thought he did a good job. On stage in the musical a good singer would be more important than a good actor (sometimes, usually.). For the movie, it kinda made sense to have a good actor rather than a good singer coz it was a movie. Ramin had everything: beautiful voice and beautiful acting, etc. So yeah, I've changed my opinions of them a bit, but I do think Rierra did Phantom better. Gerry is a good actor and hot in real life ) My opinions have changed since I got better informed from movies and research! Gerard is actually growing on me! Watched him in "P.S I Love You" and literally died of a crush. I've been watching them in other movies (separately) and watching the 2004 movie again and I don't "hate" them. And when I did see stuff on them, GERARD and Emmy were being hated on. I just was reading through all the comments and really all I saw was Sierra and Ramin or Sarah and Micheal. though i find her portrayal to be accurate, often her notes are off-pitch, and that kind of ruins it for me. she *is* christine daae to me.Ī very unpopular opinion of mine is my dislike of sierra boggess. anna is operatic and grand and beautiful. gina and acts it in a way that's very true to christine's character.
katie, while not having the most operatic voice, is very innocent and youthful in her performance.
ben is emotional and captures erik's essence, in my opinion.Ī lot of people talk about actors who didn't give a strong vocal performance and say that their acting redeemed it, but erik is constantly described as having an entrancing voice that captivates all who hear it, so i think that actors playing him have to be able to deliver there.Īs for christine, my favorites have to be katie hall, gina beck, and anna o'byrne. james is seductive and dangerous (and i loooove his deep baritone). ramin portrays erik's pain and adoration of christine in such a raw and natural way, while still being wrathful. My favorite phantoms have to be ramin karimloo (i know, i know, so unique), james barbour, and ben lewis.
